Drywall damage is one of the most common things we get called about, and for good reason — it happens in every home. The important thing to know is that most of it is very fixable, and a proper patch should disappear completely once it is finished and painted.
What causes it
Doorknobs punched into walls, furniture dings, nail pops as a house settles, hairline cracks around corners and openings, and holes left behind from mounting or plumbing work are the usual culprits. Some are cosmetic; some go all the way through. The repair approach depends on how big the damage is and what is behind it.
How a proper patch works
Small dents and nail holes get filled, sanded and blended. Larger holes need a backed patch — a piece of drywall secured in place — then taped, mudded in multiple coats, and sanded smooth. The real skill is in feathering the compound out wide enough and matching the surrounding wall texture so the repair does not stand out under the paint.
Why texture matching matters
A patch that is flat and smooth on a textured wall will still be visible even after painting. Matching the existing texture is what makes a repair truly invisible. That is the part homeowners most often struggle with on their own, and it is where a careful repair really pays off.
Leave it paint-ready
Blue Collar NRV patches drywall across the New River Valley and leaves it smooth, textured to match and ready for paint — or we can handle the touch-up painting too. Send us a photo of the damage and we will let you know what it takes.
